Purely Adoptions has been alerted on 22 Aug 2018, about 2pm of a grossly neglected dog at Ubi Ave 1.
Both the rescuers were shocked to see an emaciated dog, slump on the concrete hard HDB corridor. The rescuers knocked on the door to look for its owner, hoping to understand the dog conditions better. However there was no answer to the door. With a civic mind and concern for the welfare of the skinny dog, rescuers brought it away, with the intention of bringing it to the vet for medical treatment.
The conditions of the dog is terrible. From the photos attached, she is so skinny that you can see the rib cage and the spine; mouthful of rotten teeth and gums; both eyes are white with cataracts and with dry eyes; the nails are long and there is pressure sore on the right back hips.
On FB, there were many exchanges over concerns for this emaciated dog. They were shocked at the condition on the dog; pet lovers likewise were very concern on the health of this dog. We are Purely Adoptions decided to take up the case. Our intentions is simple, to rescue, nurse her back to health and place her up for adoptions.
There are several questions which I like to pose.
1. Why would you place your pet outside your house, at a public are like the HDB corridor?
2. How come the dog become so emaciated without a concern from its owners?
3. The suffering which the dog has to go through with dry eyes, mouth filled with rotten teeth and gum; dirty ears etc.
We have given her a name : Hope
This dog Hope could hardly stand on her own. The fosterer need to assist her to stand up. The paw pad is soft, and nails were long.
The dog had a hearty appetite and finished up a Cesar wet food. She was very hungry and as though she had not eaten for long time
At the Mt Pleasant Veterinary this morning, the veterinary had a thorough medical check on this rescued dog. She weighs 3.13kg only, grossly emaciated, with protruding rib cage and spine.
The dog has dry eyes, with cataracts on both eyes, believed that she was blind. The teeth and gums were in terrible conditions, and ears were dirty, with yeast.
Blood test were carried out. The kidney and liver were fine, white blood cells normal. Tested negative for Heart worm and Tick fever. There was lots of muscle wastage as the dog is too skinny; low in calcium content.
Review on this rescued dog to be done in 2-4week’s time. The vet had advise us to feed this emaciated dog in moderation, small amount and several meals.
We will nurse this dog, for several weeks. We will like to monitor her eating patterns and nurse her back to health. The dog is now safe, in a warm house, with cushion to lie on and food to eat. We will not return the dog to until SPCA has carried out a full investigation.

Latest update on Hope by Fosterer Elise. "Normally when I get home, she’s just lying on her side. Today, she was lying on her tummy lifting her head and looking around!" 🙂
Hope is getting better each day and she also start to wag her tail when Elise approaches her. She also started to pee and eat more which is a good sign.
We received some food and monetary donations for Hope. Thank you for your kind donations. We will keep everyone posted on her progress.

Hope is doing very well at our foster home. He has gained weight from 2.12kg to 3kg now. Faith gave her a comfy bed and Hope sleeps on it, to rest her skinny body. Her walking is unsteady and wobbly, because of muscle atrophy.
She has some hearing ability as when Lynn crinkles the food bowl, Hope will response and walk towards the food. She is really a sweet senior dog, cuddles up in a cushion and sleeps most of the time.
At the new foster place, Hope has a new buddy. He is also a rescued GR and his name is Magnum. They are really like buddies, keep each other company.
The vet has recommended Royal Canine Veterinary Diet food for Hope. A kind sponsor has bought 100 cans of this prescribed food for Hope.
Many people has come forward and we are all helping Hope to literally get back on her feet. She is making baby steps towards recovery and back to health.
Human has caused her to suffer and deteriorate to this state, but it’s also kind humans who are helping her to gain back her health. Hope is so trusting towards us humans. We will not let you down.

Updates on Hope.... Hope is doing very well at Lynn place. She has gain some weight, able to walk on her own, and eats heartily.
In addition to have some Furries friends as companion, she gets to have the most comfy bed in the house.
The path to recovery for Hope is a slow and gradual one. This is so miraculous to see her picking up herself and walk towards the bowl of delicious food. At the same time, she is able to walk back to her bed and laid down to sleep.
to be continued ...

Hope weighs 4.55kg (from the initial 2.12kg)!!! We are very happy with her progress 😄. Despite being blind and deaf, she will use her nose to look for her Fosterer Lynn when she sits next to her. We love the big smile on Hope.
Keep it up Hope! You are doing very well!
Thank you Lynn for taking great care of Hope!

Hope went for her trial homestay yesterday. Its amazing we get to meet really nice people here. Yolanda chanced upon Hope at @caninewellness when she brought her dog Obi for Hydrotheraphy Session. Lady Boss Lynn related the story of how Hope was rescued and it touches Yolanda's heart. She does not mind taking care of a senior (15yr) blind and deaf dog; she just want Hope to at least have a comfortable life, may it be few months or years.
Yolanda has 2 dogs and so far, both dogs accepted Hope in the family. Let's see how this week goes and we hope to bring good news to everyone.

Its official 🙂 Hope has been adopted by Yolanda and her family. The trial home stay went smoothly and Hope has put on more weight to 5.5kg compared to 2.12kg when she was first rescued. She has also familised herself in her new home, knowing where to look for food and water despite being blind and deaf. We are glad we found Yolanda and her family and all these will not be possible without the help of Faith (1st fosterer when she was rescued), Adeline (for informing Lynn the 2nd fosterer to take over when Faith has to travel), Lynn (2nd fosterer who is also owner of @caninewellness and brought Hope to her work place everyday. She also introduced her client Yolanda to Hope) and of course Yolanda and family for accepting a 15yr old senior blind and deaf dog to be part of the family. Thank you everyone for your concern for Hope. She is very happy now with more fur and stronger when she walk. We hardly see her ribs anymore.

Hope wishes everyone a Happy & Joyous 2019. This is so wonderful to see Hope being adopted to a wonderful family of Yolanda.
2019 definitely marks a difference we created for Hope. He was a rescued
Shi Tzu abandoned outside the HDB corridor. Emaciated, weight only 2.4kg and eyes badly affected.
Purely Adoptions team member Faith had to rescue Hope from this horrible condition. Specially thanks to Lynn for fostering Hope and providing hydro therapy to strengthen his legs.
Today Hope is a happy n joyful dog. He is well pampered and has a loving family.
Adoptions Saves Lives. Make a Difference by changing a dog’s life.
